Join us for an evening of world-class Haitian rum and Island music. OK Roots Music is jazzed to team with LowDown and Provisions Fine Beverage Purveyors for a special tasting featuring Providence and Clairin rums—spirits tightly woven into the cultural fabric of Haiti. Followed by a concert with one of Haiti’s hottest artists, VOX SAMBOU. It’s all part of the 8th annual Global BASH. Pass includes concert immediately following tasting.
“Clairin, an age-old style of rum native to Haiti, is best sipped with a deep understanding of its roots and meaning.”

FEATURED RUMS
Clairin
Providence
Originating in the Haitian countryside, where Vodou took root, at Haiti’s Day of the Dead Clairin is offered to attendees in both the physical and spiritual realms. Regularly used in ceremonies, it is customary to offer the spirits a pour, then drink a kou (or swig) in solidarity. Clairin is the drink of choice at birthdays, weddings, holidays and get-togethers on the island. Some consider Clairin distinct from rum, which is most often distilled from molasses. Clairin is made from the juice of wild sugar cane, which is fermented using indigenous yeast strains before pot-still distillation. The result is a raw, funky and rustic spirit with distinctive grassiness.
Highly energetic and danceable, VOX SAMBOU is one of Haiti’s hottest artists. This Haitian-Canadian musician focuses on the traditional rhythms of Haiti mixed with elements of Afrobeat, jazz, reggae, and hip-hop. Vox performs in Creole, French, English, Spanish, and Portuguese. A founding member of Montreal-based hip-hop collective Nomadic Massive, he has performed throughout the world and his artistry is infused with a strong commitment to calling out injustices and social imbalances. His message is one of great positivity that not only reflects the realities of life in Montreal as a Caribbean immigrant, but also the relationship between artists in the Americas.
