Join legendary photographer Baron Wolman for a screening of Making Magic, a 15-minute documentary on his life and work. Then hear WOLMAN tell fascinating stories behind his iconic photos of Jimi Hendrix, The Rolling Stones, Janis Joplin, Bob Dylan and many others. Wolman is bringing many of his best-loved photography books, as well as signed archival prints.

It was in San Francisco in 1967 that Wolman, then 30, met 21-year-old UC Berkeley student and freelance writer Jann Wenner. Wolman had been photographing rock bands and Wenner had plans to form a new kind of music periodical, so the young photographer agreed to join Rolling Stone and work for free. He also insisted on ownership of all the photos he took for the new magazine. Wolman began shooting for Rolling Stone from its very first 1967 issue through the end of the 1960s—the golden age of classic rock. With virtually unlimited access to the Grateful Dead, Frank Zappa, Jim Morrison, the Who, Jimi Hendrix, Joan Baez, Iggy Pop, Pink Floyd, Ike & Tina Turner, and many other musicians who were the graphic centerpieces of Rolling Stone’s layout, Wolman eschewed the studio, preferring informal portraiture. His approach was gradually (and some would say sadly) supplanted by highly stylized, mostly studio image makers, whose pictures were published only upon the approval of musician management. This evolution can be traced on the subsequent covers of Rolling Stone through the years.

Here are a few of the titles you can look forward to at OKeclecticFEST:

* 8×10 signed archival prints that usually sell for $300. Only $50 at the Tulsa event!

*The “Woodstock” book published by Reel Art Press in the UK.

*Copies of the limited edition version of the same book in a custom slipcase, signed and numbered, and including a signed and numbered silver gelatin 8×10 print AND an original admission ticket to the Woodstock ’69 festival.

*Copies of signed and numbered limited edition fine art poster prints Wolman produced for the Woodstock 50th Anniversary, limited to 100 copies of each size: 11×14 and 16×20.

*Woodstock 50th-anniversary tee shirts and tank tops.
