Even before he co-founded the Carolina Chocolate Drops with bandmate Rhiannon Giddens, Flemons was a hardcore preservationist, storyteller, and multi-instrumentalist—especially of songs related to the African-American experience. The GRAMMY winner has long set himself apart by finding forgotten folk songs and making them live again, and his repertoire covers over a century of early American popular music. Equally virtuosic on the banjo, guitar, harmonica, jug, percussion, quills, fife and rhythm bones, Flemons is a songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, producer, actor, slam poet, music scholar, historian, and record collector. He is is host of the American Songster Radio show on Nashville’s WSM Radio. His latest album, Traveling Wildfire, is his first since 2018’s Black Cowboys and second for Smithsonian Folkways. Dom will be playing the FETE with an accompanist on stand-up bass and fiddle.
